User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Worked real well for us
I bought it for my husband for his b-day, right before we left on vacation (how self-serving!). It made our drive so easy!

4 Stars Good for the price my review for 2008 1400 model
Now Magellan has replaced the 2008 1400 model with a newer one. The newer one is not called the 1400 and is a 2009 model. I paid $75 and got it factory refurbished. New was $150. works great. You can research online what it can do. I will only go over the negatives which are the most import thing to cover after you research the positives for any device.

1. Lets say you know a road is under construction and should be avoided. You can exclude any road or highway exit from the list of turns and exits once it creates that list for your trip. Just click on the lower left corner to pull up the list. Then click on the turn just below the one you want to exclude and not click on the actual turn. Not a very intuitive design here. The problem is that half the time it does a poor job rerouting around the excluded road, freeway, or freeway exit.

2. Second negative is that it has short battery life (3 hours according to manual) and does not come with a recharger for outside the car. Nothing to worry about if its plugged into the car of course. I got the battery logo up to 80 percent while not plugged in and with in 20 minutes of usage it was back down to 10 percent life when it was not plugged in. Basically you have to have it plugged in at all times to work.

3. Third negative is that it can’t go on pedestrian mode so its bad for walking tours of cities your visiting.

4. Fourth negative is that it can’t display traffic info. If your stuck in traffic and it sees your not moving it will ask to reroute you if you want for the traffic but it doesn’t know if the reroute will get away from traffic. Or you can manually invoke a detour with a choice of miles for the detour. When I chose a 5 mile detour option it picked a path that would have wasted an extra 45 minutes. You can pick from a 3 to 12 mile range for a detour when you touch the detour button. I recommend just going with 3. One other flaw is that if you miss the next turn on a detour route it sets the route back to the original one so now you have to go back into the menu to select detour option. Sometimes when you select detour option it wants a uturn, when you don’t make the u turn it resets the course back to the original one and so once again you have to go back to the detour screen. Decent but only if you can make the u turn or next turn so it wont reset back to the original course.

For what you do get for $75 it is outstanding and I plan to keep it for awhile. Best device for under $100. I would not buy this for more than 100. other ones for less than 100 are not as good. From what I have read on Garmins that can take in traffic info for free there are still some bugs to be worked out (like false alerts or no alerts when there is traffic) so it is not worth the high price tag as of now. I think later when some of the bugs are worked out and prices go even more down I will upgrade to a garmin unless Magellan has something better at same cost.

5 Stars Awesome!
I cannot find anything bad to say about this Magellan GPS Navigator. I was able to use it right out of the box! It’s electronic voice is natural and loud enough to hear even with the windows open and the radio playing. The 1400 is also very accurate. I was amazed that the unit was able to find an unmarked dirt road that was not even listed on a paper topo map. The automatic night time view mode is outstanding. I don’t like the real bright light in my eyes at night while driving and so having the ability of keeping it mounted on the dashboard was a real plus. There are so many nice features with this unit. I was also able to easily get map updates from the Megelan site.

I love this GPS so much that I have recommended it to my friends and family.

5 Stars Has the basics straight…
This is a great GPS for the price. What I like the most about Magellan as compared to Garmin and Tom Tom is the ease of use and intuitiveness. Before with a Garmin I had, I saw confusing maps on the screen with highlighted arrows that were supposed to “show me the way”, all of this at the moment I came to the intersection or roundabout – obviously I panicked and always made the wrong turns. It happened all the time.

With Magellan this never happens because I get a side map showing me what’s coming ahead of time – I know what to expect when the time comes. Also no more calculating turns based on “0.4 miles” or such, with Magellan I get the Bell. The bell tells you that is time for action so if you miss a speech you still have time to react.

The unit simply put has all the basics clear, works well and does the job without any bells & whistles (bluetooth, MP3, etc – who needs all that crap anyways). Multi-point routing and POIs are also great add ons.

5 Stars Magellan Gps
I can’t say enough about this product. My friend let me borrow his to take on a trip. After returning I immediately ordered one. Now, I can’t do without it. It’s a great tool for the traveler and just around town or if you are house hunting or just looking for the closest Wal=Mart on a trip.

5 Stars Power Adapter …
Works great. The fuse kept blowing in our old one and we took a chance to see if this one would work. It did work, but the problem still remained. We discovered the antenna was a little loose. After we tightened the antenna, we were on the road again!

5 Stars Perfect replacement part
I bought this to replace the original cord which had worn out. It was actually sturdier than the orginal and worked just as well.

5 Stars Magellan RoadMate Compatible 12V auto charger works AOK
All of a sudden, my original car charger for my Magellan RoadMate stopped working. Couldn’t find a replacement on the Magellan site. I saw this and gave it a try. Received as promised. Works like a charm! Much cheaper than purchasing a new magellan.

5 Stars great purchase
I lost the original adapter and had a hard time finding another one. A little pricey but well worth the purchase. Durable and works great!

5 Stars Excellent replacement
The cigarette replacement was a perfect match for my unit. The original cigarette cord received from Magellan was never quite right and eventually the connector broke off in the craddle.

Navigon 10000210 1 4 3 Inch Universal Hard Shell Case

This stylish and durable case features a molded hard- shell exterior to keep your GPS device secure. Nylon interior lining provides additional protection; a zipper provides easy access.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Great cover, only problem is that it is hard to close it,
It is a great cover. it looks good and it does it job well. The only problem is that it is hard to close the zip on the corners.

1 Star Garbage
I put my GPS in this case once, and only once. Getting it out, the zipper wouldn’t move and eventually bent. I finally had to break open the zipper to get my GPS out. Definately try something else.

4 Stars OK but Could be better!
This product was not as hard a shell as I had hoped and less quality than I’d hoped. The elastic bands don’t allow enough room to easily store GPS without worry of scratching screen with zipper. there could be more padding inside case for protective purposes. Still it is capable of protecting GPS from many hazzards and accidents.

3 Stars Good for the Price
The case was fairly inexpensive which was my primary motivation after plunking down $250 for the GPS unit itself.

The dimensions are accurate, and the fit is accurate without being too tight or too loose around my wide screen format unit. The “hardness” of the case also is as hoped for, and feels secure and very capable of protecting the unit under normal carrying situations.

I’ve used it to put in some receipts when traveling with the GPS unit, but there are no bells and whistles to accommodate other storage elements. Purely intended for the unit only. It fits well in cargo pants or coat pockets — even back pocket of some jeans I would guess.

My one concern is the zipper. It works fine through the first month I’ve had it; but, it is “tight” around the three corners of the case. It makes me feel like it is stretched a bit and could become an issue with the teeth getting misaligned as you have the sensation of forcing the zipper over those corners. Can you lube a zipper?

2 Stars Not for the Navigon 7100
This one was advertised to fit the 7100, its too small. It might fit a 3.5 screen though. Sorry.

5 Stars Navigon AC Adapter for the 8100T Model
I can make this quick.

It works Perfect.

Terry

5 Stars Universal Wall Adapter
Pros: A really good idea for keeping Items that need recharging and do not require a USB port while you are on the road. You do not to take a lot charging units because you can use the car charging unit while while not driving.

cons: None

5 Stars Clever solution!
Simple. Clever. Versatile. Would likely work with other power port accesories with small current draws. Unfortunately we don’t have any… VBG! Perfect for visiting relatives/friends who have car chargers for their phone but no house gadgets.

4 Stars As advertised
Works well I like to keep the GPS topped off before longs trips, and this product works a treat

5 Stars Slick little unit…
This gives you the advantage to actually work with the GPS while its charging as it uses the same power cord that you use in your car. Every other way I’ve ever seen to charge a GPS would not let you turn on and work with the GPS while charging. Its a well built, small, nice looking unit. I highly recommend….

Magellan Maestro 4250 4 3 Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator

We’ve been big fans of Magellan’s Maestro line since it came out in early 2006. The Maestro interface is incredibly easy to use, even for those who are not completely comfortable with electronics. At the same time, Magellan was ahead of the industry with useful innovations like multi-destination routing and pre-loaded reviews for points of interest like hotels and restaurants (from AAA). With it’s 3200 and 4200 series, Magellan has improved the Maestro line giving them a SirfStar III chipset that provides super-fast. satellite lock and making them thinner. In fact, at .7 inches, these are — at the time of this writing (November 2007), the thinnest portable GPS navigators available. Distingushing between models is also fairly easy.

3200 and 4200 Family of Navigators
Distingushing between models is also fairly easy. The 3200-series navigators feature a 3.5-inch screen, while the 4200s have a 4.3-inch widescreen display. The 3200 and 4200 offer great, basic navigation with turn-by-turn spoken directions, pre-loade maps of the 48 contiguous United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, and 1.3 million POIs. The 3210 and 4210, add maps for Canada and Alaska, AAA travel information (see details below) and bump you up to 6 million POIs. The 3220 and 4220 add maps of Mexico. The top-of-the-line 3250 and 4250 add a host of other features, including text-to-speech directions that give real street names, bluetooth for hands-free phone calls, integrated traffic (with a free 3-month subscription), and voice command.

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Some good features
I put a lot of miles on a class B RV and am enough of a geek to travel with 4 GPS’s including a Garmin 780 and this Magellan 4250. I have over 10,000 miles using the pair and have definite preferences between them. The Garmin is much better for navigating and bluetooth with superior graphics and much easier search and route features. Sound is better on Bluetooth and communication with the phone to return calls, etc is easy to use.

The Magellan has a better POI’s because of the AAA database but is frustrating because you have to cancel the current route to search. Neither lets you search along the route as does the DeLorme PC GPS so many of the POI’s are behind you. Neither will show rest stops which are important in an RV (the DeLorme does). I like Magellan’s allowing you to choose whether it displays arrival time, time to go or distance to go on the main screen. It also shows compass direction. When on a trip you may want to know the distance to the next town and Magellan auto-enters town names based on distance from current position while the Garmin makes you enter the entire name and then puts them in some arbitrary order making you go through several screens for a common name like Centerville. Magellan however does not let you search for the city center as does the Garmin. You have to enter an address or intersection. Magellan routing is not as good as it may take you a long way out of the way on a long trip. A recent trip from Texas to Colorado showed 1018 miles on Magellan and 804 miles (correct) on Garmin. The MOST IMPORTANT problem I have had on the Magellan is that it will not find “Lee’s Summit” Missouri. I had to look up the zip code and then Lee’s Summit was listed as a choice.

The other GPS’s I use both require a laptop but have several important features. The DeLorme Street Atlas is good for trip planning and alternate routing distances as well as rest stops. The Good Sam software shows campsites but is poor for routing and hard to sync.

5 Stars A great investment!
This was a great investment purchasing this item! We have used it numerous times since purchasing it and it has paid for itself..literally. LOVE the way it auto reroutes if you can’t make the required turn for some reason. It gives you the quickest way back to where you needed to be.

It gives you ample time to know when to switch lanes for your upcoming turn, actually ‘beeps’ when you are at the actual place to turn and so forth.

Definately give this a 5 star rating and recommend it for anyone. Easy to program as well so that is a BIG plus too.

1 Star Maestro frozen
I was impressed with Magellan service when I needed help to sync phone and get map updates. They responded quickly, courteously and solved my problem. However the first time I tried to use the Maestro 4250 to navigate, it froze and would not “unfreeze”. I tried rebooting, updated the software, but nothing helped. I ended up returning the unit, which Amazon and Electronica processed promptly

1 Star magellan maestro series and roadmate series
For the Love of God …please stay away from Magellan. Non speaking English customer support is a nightmare. I am not prejudice but appalled at how sorry a company can be.

I have sunk over 500 for the maestro 4250 and around 300 for the roadmate 2750 I think it was. Both worked about a year. I am so upset all I can say is stay away from them.

4 Stars Bought a second one after the first was stolen!
I love my magellan. I prefer the wide screen to some of the units my friends have, I like that it announces several times before you get to your turn, and does a bell sound well in time for you to make the turn. It announces the street, and it re-routes you well if you actually blow a turn. The only thing that is a little bit of a hassle is when it doesn’t get a satellite hit right away when you were traveling a different route – turned the unit off before you got there – and are now starting from a different location. I think that happens with all of them though.

Motorcycle Bicycle Mount for Magellan GPS

If you want to mount your Magellan to a bicycle or motorcycle this mount is great. The mount comes with a double tab plate that will attach to your Magellan. The mount can be installed easily without tools.
Please note this mount will not work if you do not have the cradle that came with your Magellan. The cradle accepts a dual tab slot. This mount will work with any Magellan that incorporates the dual tab system.

Compatible with handlebars from 3/4 inchto 1 in diameter
Can be used on helicopter yokes, too

1 Star Lido frustration
Modest price is not worth the frustration of dealing with this seller, Lido Mounts. No response from seller when products did not arrive. Seller has possibly de-activated e-mail accounts; jim@lidomounts & Lydia@lidomounts and routes ALL voice calls to a voice mail box that is full 888-550-LIDO (5436). Voice mail promises a “quick response” via sales@lidomounts, but no response by the time of this post. Bet this review gets some kind of song and dance response.

Good luck.

3 Stars Ok for an all plastic mount.
fits with a lot of work on my Yamaha Venture. If you have an adjustable handlebar setup instead of the simple chrome U on most bikes you will have trouble mounting this. the rear of the clamp has a bulge that will make it not fit well between the clutch reservoir and the handlebar on many bikes.

5 Stars works great
We used this on my bike for our honeymoon. 1800 miles from denver to vegas to grand canyon to mob and back to denver without a single problem from the mount.

1 Star No satisfied
As the mounting bracket works the thing I am not satisfied with it is bulky and it sticks up to far away from the handle bars and catches to much wind causing it to vibrate

5 Stars RAM Mounting for TomTom1
I have a TomTom1 that I used for the car and decided to use it on our motorcycle going to Yellowstone National Park and back home. I thought the suction cup used in the car would work perfectly placed between the leather pouches on the windshield of the motorcycle. It did until we drove into Wyoming. I lost the TomTom on an overpass and wrenched my ankle getting it back. After installing the new mount I can only say I wished I had it on the trip last year. It is working well.

5 Stars Just right for my Tom Tom
Mounts correctly to be seen easily but out of the way of operating your bike.

4 Stars Nice mount for the ONE
This is a nice sturdy mount for the ONE and only the Tom Tom ONE it will not work for the new models which is why mine was retured. The only thing undesirable about it is the included ubolt for mounting it is plain steel ( as listed before in other review ). Again this mount is ONLY for the older model Tom Tom ONE’s 1st 2nd or 3rd edition NOT the newer styles.

4 Stars Service is much improved
I bought this unit because it was on sale. I already had a Crossover and loved the actual gps, but like so many others, had lots of problems dealing with the company. This time was very different. I called the support number to check on the map update guarantee, and was promptly given all the info I needed. They even allowed me to use a forwarded email from amazon as proof of purchase. Ten dollars and only two days later I had a new map update in the mailbox. Update went smoothly and everything works fine. My only complaint is that the screen contrast is not quite as vivid as my previous gps, making it a little harder to see on sunny days. I am hoping that a shade will help.

The feedback for this gps is misleading a lot, in my personal eyes. The bad feedback is only regarding company service, rather than the GPS tool.

I didn’t deal with issues with Magellan company, so I don’t know how that is. However, this GPS is actually the best one since I owned. In past 5 years, I owned one GPS from MIO, one GPS from Garmin, two GPS from Megellan, and another one GPS connecting with PDA. In general, Garmin 350 and this one are the best in my mind, but this one is much cheaper. I’ve recommended many friends around me for this tool.

    5 Stars Best Little GPS!
There are not many GPS units that offer as many maps as this little jewel. I’ve used it extensively for driving in Mexico and Mexico City. I have been extremely happy with this unit and own three of them. I would not recommend anyone drive in Mexico without having this GPS. The map may have been dated but I got to where I was going in Mexico City without any problems.

If you want a true workhorse GPS with a bunch of maps – especially Mexico – this is the unit for you. I’ve studied most models and this one is turn-on and go – literally.

For the money – under $100 in most cases – you can get a better deal anywhere. So what if you need to update the maps – new map costs $70! However, the core information and mapping is extremely reliable.

I cant say enough about this product. I’m considering the 4220.

I hope Magellan does not discontinue this product and offers other units with these maps.

Magellan Customer service is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. They offer a free 30 day map update since all of their products ship with out of date maps. This would be a good thing except it is in the fine print of their products and their customer support email address that their website list is the wrong address. I had to get through to their customer service by posting a bad review on their website. By the time they responded my unit was beyond the 30 day limit and they refused to give me the update. This is a bad business practice. Garmin has a 60 day guarantee which is posted directly on their website in plain view.

    5 Stars Great Case
This is a great case for keeping everything together in one place. The only negative I can see is that the mount for the windshield does not fit inside this case, too.

5 Stars a handy hard shell
This hard shell travel case really works great, it is not absolutely hard, but has enough support to protect your GPS or whatever else you put in here from all normal abuse, excluding having a person stand on it. It is not as exactly as pictured here; it has 6 removable pockets that attach by Velcro, which really work better. You can arrange the 6 pocketed holders anyway you wish and they each shut individually and so you have cases to hold whatever you have put in them. There are also cable “ties” that are also Velcro. I have a Magellan Roadmate and absolutely everything fits in here, with space to spare, including the car charger and the extra charger for in the house. The case is very neat looking and the zipper to close it feels very solid

5 Stars Hard Shell Travel Case
I ordered it with my Magellan Maestro and it works great to keep all of the pieces in one compact place.
