User Ratings and Reviews
4 Stars Very good item!
I really like this GPS. It helped me on my 6 hour trip recentally. The only problem is that the maps are not completely up-to-date it says some stores are there when they are actually out of business. I also don’t like that it takes you on a strange route sometimes when it could be so much easier.
5 Stars GREAT!!!!
I read many reviews before purchasing this GPS. Many said they can not hear it , Well I say to them TURN UP YOU HEARING AID. This GPS is not low I hear it just fine it is very clear and accurate. I have not had any problems with it. It has lane assistance , you can play music on it, hear a book, play games what more do you want. It routes trips for you even if you want to make a stops along the way and it puts them in order so you do not waste gas. It does not have a bluetooth but you should not talk on the phone and drive anyway even if it is hands free . Great GPS and a great price.
5 Stars Great!! Rview for Garmin Nuvi 855
What a great gps. I gave my compass to my grandson, and it is super to get into the car, input my destination, and away I go!!!
3 Stars Be prepared to make a quick lane change.
Pro-
Does a good recalculation when alternate route is selected
Provides advance directions when prompted prior to turn
Voice commands works well and is safer than finger pointing the screen.
Con-
At freeway speed advance warning for correct lane is incorrect and too late to make adjustment for left turn off freeway. 50 feet warning is tooo late to make lane changes across 5 lanes at 60 MPH.
Initial setup to apply software upgrade was not permitted on Microsoft Vista operating system unless a Safe boot is made. Garmin Help desk needs to know this, otherwise a manual time consuming method is required.
Volumn control needs to allow for higher setting than allowed, which would avoid rolling up windows to hear voice command.
Because the negatives factors out weigh the positives attributes of the Garmin 855 and they are critical to perform navigation, the 3 Star rating is appropriate until a software fix is installed. Othewise this is a good unit to help navigate you to your destination.
2 Stars Navigation’s OK, but battery life is POOR!
This model is not as good as previous units! Nav route selection has produced longer routes several time – older units selected proper routes.
“BIG” problem is that the battery life is 1/2 the advertised life, barely 2 hours. This means you use it plugged in on the road or take short trips. Not very handy for a portable gps unit when walking around either.
Garmin tech support said that it charges better when using the computer USB ports versus electric or car plugin(???), but to get the best battery life, disable the GPS??? Duh, what good is it then!
Mine’s on the return route now!
